What the detector does not do — and why that matters
No tool replaces human judgement. The detector identifies textual features associated with automated writing, but it has no access to the student's history, the assignment context, or the personal circumstances of the writer. A text may show ambiguous markers for legitimate reasons: translation, heavy revision, a formal style the student has learned, or difficulty expressing original thought.
For this reason, ethical use of the tool requires treating the result as a hypothesis, not a verdict. The conversation with the student remains irreplaceable. The detector exists to inform, not to punish.
